Weekly Update: 08-03-2018

Praise God for a great first week together as Christ Community Church! We began a new sermon series in the book of Philippians titled, "Citizens of Heaven," this past Sunday. Philippians is a great place to learn how God brings diverse people together by the gospel and for the sake of the gospel. If you missed the sermon or would like to listen to it again, you can find it on the church's new website: www.cccgv.org

In an effort to communicate well during this transition, we will be sending out e-mails with various updates and announcements. Here are a few items to be aware of and praying for this week:

  • As we seek to integrate our various ministry teams, we are hosting another short meeting after church this Sunday, August 5th for all current & interested volunteers to serve in the Setup, Teardown, & Hospitality Ministry Team.
  • The leaders are working to resolve several business-related details to complete the merger process. This includes updating the name of the church with the State, consolidating resources, updating our lease with the Foothills Event Center, etc.
  • We would ask that you continue to give either to "Redeemer Community Church," or "Veritas Church," for the next several weeks until these details are finalized.
  • If you have been a current member of Veritas or Redeemer and now a member of Christ Community Church, please be sure to sign the membership covenant and turn it into one of the elders. There are extra copies at the back table available on Sunday. Should you have any questions about this covenant, please do not hesitate to speak to one of the elders.
  • If you can make it, please join us for prayer before service each Sunday at 9:30 am.

Finally, please mark on your calendar that we will be having an official launch for the newly merged church on Sunday, August 12th. This is an opportunity for us to rally around what God has called us to be & do as a church. While not strictly an "outreach," the official launch Sunday would be a great opportunity to invite others to learn more about Christ through our church.

We are filled with gratitude by what God has done in bringing Redeemer Community Church and Veritas Church together, and excited about what God will do in and through Christ Community Church in the future. We are reminded of Paul's words to his beloved fellow believers in Philippi who partnered with him in the work of the gospel:

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
(Philippians 1:6 ESV)

May God bless our new partnership established by the gospel and for the sake of the gospel in our community!

Blessings,

Christ Community Church Elders

Chist Community Church

As you may know, this past Sunday both Veritas Church and Redeemer Church voted unanimously to join together to form Christ Community Church! This is tremendously encouraging and marks a new season in the life of our church. We thank God for his faithfulness and guidance during this merger process. Over the next few weeks, there are a number of administrative and practical details that will need to be tackled in order for our two churches to become one. We ask for your continued prayers for God's favor and wisdom. Keep an eye out for an updated website and information where you can let others know about Christ Community Church.

In the meantime, here is a reminder of our upcoming schedule:

  • July 22 - Last service at Gold Miners Inn (10:30 am)
  • July 29 - Begin meeting together at Foothill Event Center (10:00 am)

Our first "official" Sunday as Christ Community Church will be August 12, and this is the date we will be publishing online and in local media. This two-week buffer is intended to work out any remaining wrinkles and get things organized as the new church.

Please continue to pray for God's good work amongst us and for great fruit to come from this new endeavor!

Together: For Christ and Community

As you may know, in recent weeks we shared our intention to merge with Veritas Church and join together as one new church. In view of this, we will be holding combined services over the next five weeks (June 10-July 8). During this time we will be looking to God's word to provide the vision and emphasis of what this new venture ought to be like. Our focus over these weeks will be to worship together and unpack the following statement:

"Together, we will exalt Christ by combining our resources to make disciples for the good of our community, to the glory of God."

  • June 10: We Will Exalt Christ
  • June 17: By Combining our Resources
  • June 24: To Make Disciples
  • July 1: For the Good of Our Community
  • July 8: To the Glory of God

Service Time and Location
10:00am @ Foothills Event Center
400 Idaho Maryland Rd
Grass Valley, CA 95945

In order to help answer as many questions as possible related to this transition, we have prepared an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) document that aims at clarifying the details around this proposal. If you did not pick up a copy this past Sunday, please download it here.

Should you have any questions about this transition or would like to talk further, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or Mark. I believe this joining together can be a wonderful statement of our union in Christ and our combined desire to glorify God in these foothills. Please join me in continuing to pray for God's direction and wisdom as we walk through this together.

Missionary Update - Zimbabwe

We are thankful to be able to support gospel ministry, not only here in Grass Valley, but within the country of Zimbabwe as well. Please read through the most recent update from Pastor Thomas Hodzi as he serves as a missionary in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Hello family,

Thank you so much for your prayers and support. This month we thought we could highlight the Rima porject/ministry that complements the rural pastoral training and orphan ministry we do through COFIM. It's in the format of a powerpoint (I hope you are able to open it) and we hope it gives you a better understanding of this important ministry and the impact it has on the pastors, church, and the community.

Please be praying for the following:

Family

  • The imminent birth of our fourth child

Church

  • We have been growing as a church and are moving to a new venue in a month. God has been very kind in this regard.
  • We are adding 15 more members this month

Rima Project

  • Rain
  • Encouragement for pastor Bob as his crop failed due to the drought in his area
  • Praise for the projects that have been doing well.

Thank you so much again for your friendship and caring for the gospel in Zimbabwe.

- Thomas Hodzi
